Description / Expertise
A late 19th Century French Ormolu inkwell with leaf cast hinged cover with three cherub heads, three winged male caryatids, or telamones with well moulded and chased torsos support the well, by means of their touching wing tip's directly flanking the head of a mythical male with rather feline features. An exceptional piece from the era of the enlightenment, a time during which an intense interest in the classical world and the subsequent production of classically inspired pieces swept across Europe.
