Description / Expertise
Queen Anne Britannia standard silver tumbler cup of very good quality. One side of the body has a contemporary engraving of initials I * G within a decorative, foliate, cartouche. The base of the cup is rounded and the sides flare very gently outwards.

The use of tumbler cups has been recorded as early as 1664. They were often used as drinking vessels on journeys because the rounded base ensured that when the cup was tipped by a jerky movement of the carriage or boat, it tumbled back to an upright position.
