James II longcase clock ( England c. 1690 )

Medium
oak walnut
Dimensions
  208.00cm high (  81.89 inches high)
Description / Expertise
A very fine and well-proportioned James II longcase clock. The case is constructed of oak veneered with walnut with inset panels of bird and floral marquetry. The colour and patination of the case is excellent. Standing on a plinth, the case measures 6ft 10ins high with a lenticle to the door and a
rising hood flanked by barley twist columns.

The 11ins square dial is well set out with fine engraving between the cherub and foliage spandrels and an engraved rose to the matted centre. There is an aperture to view the day of the month and the winding holes are ringed.

The eight day duration movement has five latched pillars, an anchor escapement and hour strike sounded on a bell via an outside locking plate.
